Oklahoma Onion Burger: Improved Recipe

Oklahoma Onion Burger: Improved Recipe

If you've been to Oklahoma, but never tried an Oklahoma Onion Burger, you don't know what you're missing out on... Thankfully we have the OG recipe, straight from the kitchen it was born in - and we're going to share it with you!

You Will Need

Ingredients

Tools & Materials

  • Onion slicer
  • Spatula
  • Griddle
  • Mixing bowl

The Prep

Let's get cookin'! Step one, preheat the griddle, and coat it with oil. While the cooker is heating up, go ahead and slice the onions as thinly as possible - a good onion slicer will make your life a lot easier here.

Next, form the ground beef into meatballs. You want them to be slightly bigger than the average meatball, but not huge.

The Cook

Once the griddle is hot, it's time to make some onion burgers! Place the formed meatballs on the griddle and cover with a generous handful of onions. Now grab your most sturdy spatula and press the onion-covered meat into a proper patty shape.

Season the patty with The Best Sizzlin’ Burger Rub, and flip. Place your buns on top of the patty to steam for about 30 seconds, then set those aside off the heat.

Top each patty with a slice of American cheese and allow to melt. You can speed the melting process up by covering the patties with a (heat safe) mixing bowl for a few seconds.

The Payoff

When ready, remove the patties from the griddle and place on top of the buns. Add some mustard, pickles, and your other favorite cheeseburger toppings and enjoy.
