Apple Pie Baked Beans

These Apple Pie Baked Beans, with their perfect blend of sweet and savory, are the ideal accompaniment to grilled or smoked meats at your next cookout! Serve alongside our Easy Gator Taters to really steal the spotlight.

You Will Need

  • 1x 16 oz can of apple pie filling
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 lb of thick-cut bacon (5-6 pieces cut into pieces, extra for garnishing)
  • 4x 16 oz cans of baked beans (pork and beans) - do not drain
  • ½ cup Kosmo's Q Original Competition BBQ Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 2 Tbsp  ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Tbsp brown sugar
  • Kosmo's Q SPG rub to taste

The Prep

As always, the first step is to make sure you have all your tools and ingredients ready to roll. Even for a recipe as easy as this, having everything within arm's reach will make your life a lot easier!

Start by cutting your thick-cut bacon into bite-sized pieces. Cook the bacon bits in a cast iron skillet, and pull them off the heat when they reach your desired crispness. Spoon the bacon out of the grease and onto a paper towel-lined plate, and save the bacon grease in the skillet.

Next, dice the yellow onion into small pieces, and then sauté them in the bacon grease. Let the onions cook for about 2-3 minutes until they're softened and aromatic. Once they're ready, drain the excess grease and set your sautéed onions aside.

The Cook

It's time to bring all the flavors together! Start by pouring the four cans of baked beans directly into your cast iron skillet. Pour in the BBQ sauce, add the yellow mustard, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Don't forget to toss in those sautéed onions and bacon pieces as well.

Now, give everything a good stir, ensuring that the mix is well combined. Once done, season the beans with a sprinkle of SPG rub to taste.

Now comes the pièce de résistance - the apple pie filling. Pour it into the skillet and let the magic happen as the flavors meld together. Set your cast iron skillet over low heat and let the beans gently warm throughout. The fragrance of sweet apples and savory bacon intermingling will make your kitchen feel like the heart of a five-star barbecue joint.

The Payoff

Once the beans are perfectly warmed throughout, remove them from the heat and let them cool slightly. Top your Apple Pie Baked Beans with those extra bacon pieces for an extra layer of crunch and flavor. Pair them with your favorite grilled or smoked meats, and watch as your guests dive in with enthusiasm!
