Simple BBQ Western Cheeseburger

Simple BBQ Western Cheeseburger

A simple, no-nonsense western grilled cheeseburger recipe - because some days, that's all you need.

When we sent out the Mystery Boxes, we asked our people to send us recipes using their new Best Rubs. This submission was from Jordan Norris.

You Will Need

The Prep

For this one, you'll need your grill to be HOT! Fire it up, and let it come up to 450ºF (232ºC).

While the pit is warming up, section your ground beef into 1/3rd pound (150 gr) patties. Flatten them evenly, and season with the Sizzling Burger rub, or any seasoning you enjoy!

Slice your onions into extremely thin slices. You want them to be paper thin so they crisp up properly. Mix them with some salt and pepper (or SPG if you have it!), and place them on a zip lock bag with about half a cup of white flour. Shake vigorously, making sure to coat each onion. If need be, add more flour, you can always shake off the excess.

The Cook

Preheat the oven to 400ºF (200ºC), and throw in your buns without opening them. This will crisp up the outside and have the inside remain soft.

If you have a deep fryer, heat it to 350ºF (175ºC). Otherwise add about 2 cups of vegetable oil to a pan, and heat over medium high heat for about five minutes. Once sizzling, add the onions to the pan, stirring every minute or so. It should take between 4 and 5 minutes to get them to a nice golden brown.

Slap the burgers on the grill, and give them about 3.5 minutes on each side. Place the cheese on top of them, kill the heat, and close your lid, giving the cheese 1 minute to melt.

The Payoff

Assemble your Western grilled burgers! Add one patty and a handful of onions to each burger. Add about 1-2 tablespoons of sauce to the top bun, and press together.
