Onion burger meets Patty Melt, creating the World's Best Patty Melt Burger! This simple recipe is crunchy, cheesy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious all at once, all sandwiched between slices of toasted sourdough bread. Prepare your taste buds, this one's impossible to resist.
For the Burger Sauce:
Let's get some prep work out of the way first, starting with the sauce: In a mixing bowl, blend the Kewpie mayonnaise and ketchup. Add Worcestershire sauce to taste - 3-4 dashes were the sweet spot for us. Season with Double Pepper Cow Cover Course.
Next, preheat your flattop to high heat. While it's coming up to temp, slice the onions and form the patties. If you haven't already, prepare the cheese and sourdough bread slices.
With everything prepped and ready, it's time to get cookin'. Season your beef patties liberally with Double Pepper Cow Cover, giving them the perfect kick. Throw the patties on the flattop, and cook one side like you normally would.
The magic happens the moment you flip the patties. In true Oklahoma onion burger style, you flip the patties, place a generous amount of thinly sliced onions on top, and use a sturdy spatula to mash them into the meat. Season again, and let them cook.
In the meantime, butter up those sourdough bread slices, and give them a toast. When the patty is almost done, flip one final time to cook the onions. And with that, you're ready to assemble the world's best patty melt!
The moment of truth has arrived! As the bread slices turn golden brown, place two onion burger patties on top of each, side by side. Give them one final hit of the rub, and add two slices of American cheese. Spread some homemade burger sauce on the top slice, and crown your king!
The only thing that's left to do is flip the burger and wait for the cheese to melt on the inside. Once done, slice, serve, and enjoy the juiciest, cheesiest, most flavor packed patty melt your mouth has ever tasted!
