Now we’re not giving up on real burgers any time soon - but it would be unfair to not give the other side a try. That’s why we tried some plant based patties!
Here’s how we went about cooking them. Little to no prep work is needed here. Rub the patties with some olive oil to act as a binder. Then season with Texas Beef and Cow Cover Hot, as you would with a real beef patty. Slice the vegetables that are going on the burger later, and you’re good to go!
For these meatless burgers, preheat the grill to 450-500ºF (232-260ºC). This will give you a nice seared crust on the outside - don’t worry about cooking the veggies to a specific temperature. Just give each side about 2 minutes over direct heat. Add a slice of cheese to melt over each one, and you’re golden.
Once the burgers are off the heat, give your buns a quick toast as you’d normally do. Spreading some butter on both the top and bottom bun will add a nice color.
When everything is off the grill, go ahead and assemble your burger! Stack some lettuce, onion, tomato on the bottom bun. Follow up with pickles, mustard, and your grilled meatless burger patty.
And that’s it! Have you tried plant-based burgers? We thought it was an interesting experiment, but will stick with beef & pork for now. But as always, you do you! Catch you on the next recipe!
