Tex-Mex Smashburger Recipe

Assembled Smash Burger

This Smashburger is not for the faint of heart - buckle up ladies & gents, we’re spicing things WAY up. This may be a bit hotter than your average burger recipe though, so feel free to adjust some of the ingredients to what you like eating.

You will need

  • 1lb of Ground Beef 80/20
  • Kosmo's Q Texas Beef Seasoning
  • Guacamole (the little plastic containers work best)
  • Red salsa (we went with Spicy)
  • Texas Toast
  • Butter
  • Shredded Mexican Cheese
  • 1 yellow Onion
  • 1 Jalapeno (keep the seeds)
  • Mayonaise (¼ cup)
  • Tapatio Hot Sauce (2 tsp)

The Prep

Vegetables on Grill

Right off the bat, fire up the grill! For this Smashburger recipe, you’ll need either a cast iron skillet or a flat top griddle.

Once the grill is hot, throw down some butter on your cooking surface. Then add the sliced onions and jalapenos, and sauté for a few moments to soften ‘em up. If you don’t enjoy the jalapeno heat, this is the time to adjust. Give them a hit of Texas Beef seasoning while you’re at it for extra flavor. When the veggies are ready, pull them off the heat.

Give the Texas toast slices a quick, well, toast. These are going to be our burger buns. Then set those aside too.

While all of that is going on, mix your mayo & hot sauce to create “spicy mayo”.

The Cook

Get your burgers on the griddle and smash them halfway. When it’s time, flip and smash again, to create the signature thin patties. Add shredded Mexican cheese on top, and cover to help it melt over the patties.

What you should end up with is thin burgers with a cheesy crust on top - don’t worry, we’re putting 2 of those on each Smashburger.

The Payoff

For the final part of this Smashburger recipe, we’re going through what we put on our Tex-Mex Smashburger. This is where you should feel free to add & remove ingredients to make something you will enjoy - but if you can handle the heat, here’s what to do:

Spread some spicy mayo on both Texas toast slices. Then put a healthy pile of the jalapeno/onion mix on one, followed by two stacked cheesy patties. Top with guacamole and seal the deal with your favorite red salsa.
