Cranberry Old Fashioned

Cranberry Old Fashioned

For this one we put a different spin on a classic - here we go, the Cranberry Old Fashioned. Have one early and have one often!

You Will Need

  • 2 oz chilled Bourbon (Makers Mark is good for this recipe)
  • 1 Tbsp raw sugar
  • 5-6 dashes of aromatic bitters (orange bitters are good too)
  • 1 (.5 oz) Tbsp cranberry syrup
  • Cranberry Syrup
    • 1 cup of pure Cranberry juice
    • 1/3 cup of sugar Ingredients

The Prep

For this one we went with a cranberry syrup. The tartness of the cranberry syrup balances perfectly with the orange and the sweetness of the bourbon. So let's start by making our own syrup!

Put a small pot over medium heat, and add the cranberry juice. You can use juice with sugar if you want, but it's better to be able to control how much you add yourself. Add the sugar to the juice, and leave it on until it has reduced by half.

After the syrup has reduced, let it cool down before using it.

The Old Fashioned

Time to get this party started! In a highball glass, add the raw sugar and add 5-6 dashes of aromatic bitters. Start to muddle to break down the sugar.

After the sugars are broken down a little add the cranberry syrup and continue to mix/muddle.

Add the bourbon and then ice cube(s) to your preference. Stir the drink until it is well chilled, probably around 30-50 seconds. Squeeze an orange zest over the top of the drink for a little extra oil.

Finally, garnish with the orange zest and a couple of fresh cranberries. Serve to your guests, or make one for yourself - either way, enjoy this delicious cranberry old fashioned cocktail!
