How to Cook a Cheap Steak

How to Cook a Cheap Steak

Football season's around the corner, so here's a game day steak recipe to turn a cheap steak into a restaurant-worthy, flavor-packed steak you'd pay good money for!

You Will Need

Ingredients

Tools & Materials

  • Hasty Bake (or other BBQ grill)
  • Meat thermometer
  • Tongs
  • Grill Grates
  • Timer

The Prep

You've got your steak, you've got your grill and charcoal at the ready: let's get started!

First, let's turn this cheap steak into restaurant-worthy, flavor-packed meat you'd pay good money for. To do this, we're going to marinate! Place the meat in a ziplock bag or a dish that's deep enough, and add soy sauce until it's fully submerged. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes, just enough for the meat to absorb the flavor and moisture.

When that's done, pat the steak dry with paper towel, and season it. We're using Classic Steak Rub and Prime Steak Rub - but feel free to use whatever you like.

The Cook

Time to fire up the grill! Preheat the Hasty Bake (or other grill) to 600ºF (315ºC). Place the steak on the grill grates over direct heat, and let the heat work its magic.

You'll want to cook the steak until it reaches an internal temperature of 135ºF  (58ºC). This will go quicker than you think - if you want hashmarks on the steak, this is the time. Grill for 2-3 minutes, then rotate by 45º.  Grill for another 2-3 minutes before flipping, and repeat. After the last rotation, start checking on internal temperature with your meat thermometer and cook to completion.

The Payoff

Once the steak reaches its target internal temperature, bring it off the cooker. Let it rest for at least 10 minutes - this will give it time to reabsorb its juices.

When it's rested, all that's left to do is put it on a plate, serve with your favorite side, and enjoy the game!
