Loco Moco Hawaiian BBQ Recipe

Loco Moco Hawaiian BBQ Recipe

If you're looking for a grilled burger with a tasty twist, look no further than this Loco Moco Hawaiian BBQ recipe. This classic Hawaiian dish is easy to make and packed with flavor.

You Will Need

  • 12 Eggs
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/2 medium sized Sweet Onion
  • 3/4 Cup sliced Mushrooms
  • Brown Gravy mix
  • 1 1/2 lb ground Beef (80/20)
  • 1 Tbsp + 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 Cup Beef Stock
  • 4 tsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tsp Ketchup
  • 1.5 Tbsp Cornstarch
  • Kosmo's Q SPG rub
  • The Best Sizzlin’ Burger rub
  • Rice
  • Green Onions (for garnishing)

The Prep

An essential, yet often overlooked, part of cooking any good dish is choosing your ingredients. Pay your local farmers market or butcher a visit - studies show locally sourced food actually tastes better (yes, you can google that!). Also, use ingredients you enjoy. No one knows what you like better than you - if you have a favorite spice blend, feel free to use that, or if ketchup is not your jam, leave it out entirely.

Let's make the patties first! Start by mixing together the ground beef, 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, SPG, and Sizzlin' Burger rub in a large bowl. Form the meat mixture into patties, ensuring that they're at least one inch thick and have smooth edges. Set the patties aside.

In another bowl, whisk together the beef stock, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and cornstarch until the cornstarch has dissolved. Set the mixture aside.

Next, slice the sweet onion and mushrooms. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan and caramelize the onion for about a minute, then add the mushrooms and fry for another minute or two. Set the onions and mushrooms aside. Cook the eggs to your desired doneness in a separate pan with a tablespoon of melted butter, and set those aside too. Finally, prepare rice according to package instructions.

The Cook

Now it's time to cook your Loco Moco Hawaiian BBQ! Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle to medium-high heat. Grill the patties to your desired doneness, flipping once. Set the patties aside and keep them warm.

In the same pan you used for the onions and mushrooms, melt the remaining butter and add the brown gravy packet. Stir the mixture until it starts to thicken and simmer. Gradually pour in the beef stock mixture and keep stirring until the gravy thickens.

The Payoff

Only thing that's left to do is assemble your dish! Scoop a generous serving of hot white rice onto a plate. Top it with a hamburger patty, drizzle on the gravy, and add the onions and mushrooms. Finish with a sunny-side-up egg and garnish with chopped green onions. Serve immediately and watch your guests be awed.
